The University of Florida Interfraternity Council held its 8th annual Chicken Wing Charity Thing, CWCT, on March 15th, 2018. The event was a chicken wing competition where fraternities competed for the best-tasting wings and sororities competing for the best-tasting deserts. This year they raised $15,000 through donations and ticket sales to UF’s Dance Marathon held on March 24-25.
The Interfraternity Council held its annual philanthropy, Chicken Wing Charity Thing, on March 15th, which raised $15,000 for the University of Florida Dance Marathon on March 24-25. From 5:00-7:00 PM on Flavet Field, each IFC chapter prepared their own style of 800 wings that were enjoyed by those who bought tickets prior or at the event. A panel of judges tasted each chapter’s batch of wings and decided the winner as the event came to a close. Numerous chapters from the Panhellenic Council competed for best tasting dessert.
The wing competition was fierce with flavors of numerous styles, however, Beta Theta Pi dethroned Theta Chi by winning first place. Delta Gamma from Panhellenic Council won the best tasting dessert. Over 1,500 people showed up to the event with hungry stomachs looking to dig into a variety of chicken wing selections. The event had live entertainment from Dj Netgate, a brother within the Beta Theta Pi chapter at UF. Netgate played on the Flavet Field amphitheater while attendees enjoyed the selection of wings, desserts, and a mechanical bull sponsored by PremierEvents.
Last year, IFC raised $12,000 for Dance Marathon and looked to surpass that goal this year. Brawn Nelson, Vice President of Operations for IFC, stated “This was the most successful CWCT we had in a long time. I am proud of my guys for helping make this event a success and surpassing our last years total.” On Sunday, March 25th during the last remaining hours of Dance Marathon, the executive members of IFC presented the check of $15,000 on stage in front of all the participating dancers and miracle families. “Dance Marathon at UF raised over 3 million this year and I’m glad that we were able to contribute to that big milestone. ” Says Brawn.
