The University of Florida Interfraternity Council held its 6th annual Chicken Wing Charity Thing on March 10th. The event was a chicken wing competition where fraternities competed for the best tasting wings. This year they raised $12,000 through donations and ticket sales to UFs Dance Marathon held that weekend.

The Interfraternity Council held its annual philanthropy, Chicken Wing Charity Thing, on March 12th, which raised money for the upcoming University of Florida Dance Marathon that weekend. From 5:00-7:00 PM on Flavet Field, each IFC chapter prepared their own style of 600 wings that were enjoyed by those who bought tickets prior or at the event. A panel of judges tasted each IFC chapter’s batch of wings and decided the winners as the event came to a closing. Numerous chapters within the National Panhellenic Council, Panhellenic Council, and Multicultural Greek Council also competed for best tasting desert.

The wing competition was fierce with flavors of numerous styles, however the Theta Chi chapter took the win while Delta Gamma won the best tasting dessert. Over 1,500 people showed up to the event with hungry stomachs looking to dig into a variety of wing selections. Live entertainment from Spencer Jordan, a brother within the Beta Theta Pi chapter at UF. Jordan played on the Flavet Field amphitheater while attendees enjoyed the selection of wings and desserts. Study Edge helped sponsor the event and had giveaways for students as they walked along.

Last year, IFC raised $10,000 for Dance Marathon and looked to surpass that goal this year. Mike Greenberg, Vice President of Operations for IFC, stated “I thought this was the most successful CWCT IFC has ever had. Before the event, our goal was to beat last years number of $10,000 and I am very happy that we accomplished just that.” On Sunday, March 20th during the last remaining hours of Dance Marathon, the executive members of IFC presented the check on stage in front of all the participating dancers. “Dance Marathon raised over 2 million this year and I’m glad that we had a big impact on that number.” Says Wolis. Chicken Wing Charity Thing was Green Certified by the UF Office of Sustainability and the student organization, Gators Going Green, in order to ensure that they leave as little impact on the environment as possible.
